Collections

Five collections, each with a fixed format and a place in the catalogue.

  • Calunga

    Author monograph

Calunga is the sea in Bantu thought: ancestral water, the border between worlds. The house’s central collection — long-form bodies of work by authors with years of research behind them, in the large format and the printing the work calls for.

    240 × 300 mm · 128–160 pp · hardcover, sewn · 500 copies plus 40 numbered with a signed print

  • Baixa-Mar

    First book

At low tide the territory appears: sandbanks, fishing corrals, paths the water was hiding. This is the collection for authors who have not published a book yet. Titles come out of the Baixa-Mar Award, open once a year, with no entry fee.

    190 × 250 mm · 72–96 pp · softcover with flaps · 300 copies

  • Barlavento

    Atlantic co-edition

Barlavento is Cape Verde’s windward group of islands, and the name of the crossing. Co-editions with houses in Cape Verde, West Africa and the diaspora: shared cost, shared print run, two or three languages.

    210 × 270 mm · 96–128 pp · 800 shared copies · PT/EN/FR

  • Cordel

    Chapbook

Carries the graphic lineage of the Brazilian Northeast: cheap print, sold hand to hand, made to circulate. One short essay per issue, saddle-stitched, entry-level price. Where most of the house’s authors begin.

    160 × 230 mm · 24–32 pp · saddle-stitched · 500 copies

  • Travessia

    Essay and image theory

Text crossing the Atlantic both ways: essays on photography, the colonial gaze and the Black image, many of them never before published in Portuguese. Pocket format, with a plate section at the end.

    140 × 210 mm · 112–144 pp · softcover · 500 copies
